Wilkes drops two against Lycoming in doubleheader Thursday afternoon
The Wilkes University softball team fell in a double header in non-conference games against Lycoming College Thursday afternoon. Lycoming took game one 10-5 and completing a comeback victory in game two 9-8.
Wilkes now slips to 2-14 overall after the losses, while Lycoming improves to 7-8 overall.
Game on started out scoreless until the Warriors took advantage in the fourth inning when two bases-loaded walks put Lycoming head 2-0. Lycoming broke ahead when a ball was hit to center field driving in two more runs. Later on, Lycoming capped off the rally with a two-run double giving Lycoming a 6-0 advantage.
The Warriors finished with two runs in the seventh inning to take the victory.
Game two opened with Brooke Limeberry hitting a single to left center field, brining in the first two runs early in the first inning. Jenna Graziano also collected a RBI hit in the first.
Lycoming answered in the third when they brought in two runners with a shot off the left-center wall, cutting Wilkes lead to 3-2. Wilkes brought in two more runs at the bottom of the inning thanks to Lycoming mistakes pushing the lead to 5-2.
Jordan Borger led off with a home run to center field in the fourth that added to the lead making it 7-2.
After adding one last run in the fifth, Lycoming exploded with six runs in the sixth inning to make a comeback. The Warriors use a bases loaded walk and two RBI singles to take a 9-7 lead. Wilkes got one more run with a home run in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead 9-8, but was unable to come back for the win.
Wilkes returns to Freedom Conference play Saturday hosting rival King’s College at 1:00 p.m.
