The Wilkes men’s soccer team notched its fifth straight win Sept. 15 over Penn Tech.
The team has been on quite a roll as of late and is looking to continue its success. During this winning streak, the Colonels have outscored their opponents 18-2. This is the Colonels’ longest win streak since 2007, when they also won five games in a row.
The week of Sept. 23 could be a big stepping stone for the team and could take them places that they have never been before.
Some coaches and players are excited about the possibility of what could potentially happen this season. Graduate Assistant Robert Pomento said he is pleased with how his players are playing. He also believes the road is getting much tougher ahead.
“Our week has been going very well, just check our results,” Pomento said. “The team is coming together faster than expected and we’re all very proud of that. We’ve worked some kinks out internally and the leadership is stepping up. We have an extremely tough conference schedule ahead and that is where our leadership will come up big. We all have to get “stuck in” and fight for each other.”
Senior Geoffrey Arentz is also pleased with how the Colonels have started their season.
“We are off to an amazing start to the season,” Arentz said. “We’ve won as a team. We are going into conference play the right way.”
The Colonels will face Lebanon Valley College and Elmira College, this week, before returning home next week for a four-game home stand. Freedom Conference play begins Oct. 5 when the Colonels face Eastern University at Schmidt Stadium.
