Yummy goods were being sold to help a cause in the Wilkes Barre area.

Sigma Tau Delta, also known as the English Society, held a bake from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1-3 at the Henry Student Center. Sigma Tau Delta sold baked goods like cookies, cupcakes and brownies for 50 cents each to support The Magnolia Project.

Miranda Baur, member of Sigma Delta, was in charge of the bake sale. She said the Magnolia Project is a volunteer-based program for teenage girls to help encourage them in their academics and show them how important education is

“Check out the Magnolia Project, they are always looking for volunteers and help the girls get a positive outlook on education,” Baur said.

The Magnolia Project is operated through Volunteers of America. The bake sale was open to the public, and it had no cost to attend, unless students wanted to buy a baked good.

Anne Yoskoski, vice president of Sigma Tau Delta, shares how she feels about helping in the community.

“I feel grateful and extremely lucky to be able to help the community surrounding Wilkes University with an issue that often goes unnoticed,” Yoskoski said. “Literacy skills can only help people in life and I am glad Sigma Tau Delta supports these causes and raises awareness.”

In December, The Sigma Tau Delta will be hosting a giving tree to support United Hebrew Institute.
