Student Government met for its sixth weekly meeting of the Spring 2025 semester on Feb. 19. The meeting addressed six funding requests from both Wilkes University clubs and Student Government committees.
The Student Government Treasurer’s report showed a current budget of $59,172.
The Wilkes Adventure Education Club was the first organization to present their week one of two funding request.
The club will be traveling to Hawaii for seven days during the 2025 Spring break. During the trip, 10 participating students will be able to explore the destination and participate in activities, such as snorkeling and surfing.
The Wilkes Adventure Education Club is requesting a total of $5,000 to fund the expenses of the trip after each participating student’s deposit of $1,000.

A member of the Wilkes University Chapter of the American Pharmacist Association was next to present their week one of two funding request. She began by presenting the chapter’s support of advocacy and legislation, professional growth and leadership and research.
The member of the Wilkes Chapter is requesting funds for the 2025 Annual Meeting and Exposition, where she will be able to attend education seminars, network and present two of her research projects.
The member of the American Pharmacist Association Wilkes University Chapter is requesting general funds for her attendance at the conference. She will return next week for her week two of two funding request.
The next presentation was held by the Future Business Leaders of America for their week one of two funding request.
The organization will be attending its Spring State Conference in Harrisburg, PA for three days in April. During the conference, attending students will compete with their presentations for placement in the statewide competition.
The Future Business Leaders of America organization is requesting a total of $1,500 to fund the registration fees and a portion of lodging costs for its attendance at the conference.

The Wilkes Chapter of the Kappa Psi pharmaceutical fraternity, Delta Omnicom presented their week one of two funding request to conclude the external funding requests of the meeting.
The chapter is requesting funds for the attendance of 24 students at their Spring Province Assembly in Mystic, CT in April 2025. At the conference, attending students will be able to attend workshops, network and vote on legislative changes in the organization.
The Wilkes University Chapter of Kappa Psi is requesting a total of $6,024 to help fund its attendance at the conference. The chapter will return next week for their week two of two funding request.
The Student Government Planning Committee representative for the Big Event returned this week for their week two of two funding request. Big Event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end after noon. During this time, participating students will be given food, do community service and experience the following Little Event.
The planning committee presented three options of funding to Student Government based on what type of giveaway item will be incorporated into the event. Option one is $10,170, option two is $11,178 and option three is $11,795.
Student Government voted to allocate $11,178 to the Student Government Big Event Planning Committee.
The last funding request of the meeting was presented by the Student Government Block Party Planning Committee for their week one of two request.
The Block Party event will be held outside of the Sordoni Art Gallery and Karambelas building and include various food trucks, drink stands, and yard games.
To fund the event’s food trucks, the committee is requesting a total of $13,110. The committee presented that, though this is a larger portion of the Student Government budget, it is the final Student Government-hosted event of the 2024-2025 school year.
The Student Government Block Party Planning Committee will return next week for their week two of two funding request.
Student Government will meet again on Feb. 26.
