In the afternoon on Election Day, the Wilkes Democrats club was on the first floor of the Henry Student Center handing out stickers, Kamala Harris T-shirts and advocating for students to go out and vote.
Club members Maddie Belk and Jason Oshman also advised students to head to the polls.
Belk, a first-year student, said that this is one of the most important elections of our lifetime especially for young voters. Oshman agreed with her statement and said he would be very nervous of the future of the political climate if Trump wins. The two also discussed the issues that were most important to them that are at stake in this year’s election. They both agreed that abortion rights, climate change, gun control, and LGBTQ+ rights were topics that motivated them to both vote blue.
They claimed that Harris had their best interests in mind when it came to these issues. They also agreed that Harris winning would be a massively progressive push for the country by having its first woman/woman of color president.
“I want to be able to say Madam President so bad,” Belk said.
