Student Government held another weekly meeting on Feb. 22. This week’s meeting consisted of finishing last week’s business of club recognition and finalizing fund requests.
For week 2 of 2, Student Government brought back the Black Student Union for a brief presentation. The focus of the Black Student Union is to promote, educate and create unity for students of color on the Wilkes campus. There was a brief intercession to vote on the club. The vote passed to recognize the Black Student Union.
Week 2 of 2 of the FBLA club conference fund request consisted of a brief presentation recapping last week’s request, which was for $1,300. The FBLA, or the Future Business Leaders of America, is a branch or organization of nationwide professional organizations that hold a conference each year. This conference is where Wilkes will compete in over 50 different categories in hopes of placing. The fund request was for $1,300 to help cover the price of registration for the members attending the conference.
The Student Government had a brief intersession to vote on the club’s request. The Student Government approved FBLA’s fund request.
The last order of business was the Capital Projects’ fund request for the Marts Fitness Center. The request was for $20,777 to help replace three of the current treadmills in Marts.
Currently, the treadmills in the fitness center are old and outdated. The new treadmills will be motorless and will have custom Wilkes labeling. This would help not only the athletes on campus but also all of the wide variety of students that use the fitness center.
The Student Government had a brief intermission to vote on the fund request, and approved the request for $20,777.
