Student Government held its fourth meeting of the semester, covering four presentations for events, club requests and club re-recognitions.
The Wilkes Homecoming Committee announced the weekend’s schedule to the council, and covered budgeting, events and giveaways. The committee proposed a giveaway of 350 alumni T-shirts to be given out at the pep rally, along with pom-poms and necklaces. The dance, which will take place at the Mary Stegmaier Mansion, will have a live DJ and a photobooth. Tickets will be $10 per student, reflecting the price of spring fling tickets.
A motion was requested to allow the full budget amount of $22,437.89 for Homecoming weekend to be allocated. The motion was passed.
Next, the council recapped the annual Student Government’s Retreat, which allows for members of all classes to meet and bond before the start of the semester’s meetings. It gave the council a feeling of the year ahead and the personalities of the different members who would be working together. Overall, it was considered a success by all classes.
The Gender & Sexuality Alliance Club approached the council with requests for constitution updates. This club, which gives Wilkes students of the LGBTQIA+ community a space to gather and host events, made revisions to their constitution. Voting is to take place next week.
In the last request, a member of the proposed UNICEF Club presented to the council to re-recognize the club, which hasn’t been available to students since before COVID-19. Sponsored by the United Nations, UNICEF Club gives students the opportunity to get involved with humanitarian and developmental aid, both worldwide and in the community. The club will host monthly meetings, fundraisers and events. All events and meetings must meet qualifications sponsored by the United Nations’ calendar.
Voting will take place next week. Student Government will meet again Sep. 28.
