With the most popular chicken wing variety, Ice House Pub in Mountain Top was named ‘Wing Champion’ at Zebra Communications’ Wing ‘n’ sing event last Wednesday. Proceeds from the event went toward the “Embrace a Child in Tanzania” campaign to benefit orphans in Karagwe, Tanzania who have been affected by the AIDS virus.
Campaign members considered the event a success after the night of wing tasting and karaoke performers brought in about $700. Approximatly 82 tickets were sold, $300 was raised through karoke challenges alone and the silent auction of an African style rug went to the highest bidder for $50.
“I know that most people probably came for the wings, but this event was so much more than that,” said junior communications studies major and Zebra member on the campaign, Alex Zero. “Regardless of reason, I’m glad that so many students came and because they did the event has become a lot more than just a school project; it’s given us all the opportunity to make a difference.”
