Inspired by ideas discovered on the social networking site Pinterest, Wilkes University Programming Board hosted a “DIY Night” on Thursday, Feb. 14, in the Henry Student Center where students had the opportunity to create their own “do it yourself” crafts.

Pinterest is a free website where users can create boards featuring a collection of their favorite photos, interests, hobbies, and ideas. Multiple theme-based image collections are available for users to scroll through in search of inspiration or simply to cure their boredom.

Some of these collections include animals, humor, tattoos, hair and beauty, education, and many more. One of the most popular categories is DIY & crafts where users can find an array of craft ideas that are easy enough to do themselves.

Pinterest-related cupcake, picture frame, glass, barrette decorating, dry and erase board making and headband making were among the different stations available Thursday night for students to visit to unleash their creative side.

“They had so many different activities that I think anyone would be able to find something to make,” sophomore Marissa Bartorillo, a Programming Board member, said. “It gave me a chance to take what I see on Pinterest and try it for myself.”

Wilkes University’s Programming Board hosts many of the activities for students on campus like more recent events such as various kinds of Bingo, a summer in winter party, and pizza wars as well as upcoming events such as a black light party, karaoke night, and the annual spring concert in April.

“Programming Board holds an event every Thursday night of each month during the school year that’s free to students,” Executive Programming Board member Thalia Garzon said. “It’s a great way for students to get involved and have fun.”
