Hey there Colonels! I hope the arrival of fall has you feeling awesome vibes. Tis’ the season of girl riots at grocery stores looking for pumpkin spiced everything…and good music of course. Here are a few new releases including some oldies that will sound great on your first fall Spotify playlist.
When I think of fall I think of music to help me get through the semester. Sure, bonfires and jogging outside on endless trails filled with leaves is cool, but that perfect playlist is an added bonus. Way back in 2007 when I first discovered college radio I recall hearing a song called “Fireworks” by Animal Collective.
When I listened to it over and over it just gave me images of being outside around a fire at 2am with great friends and s’mores. The downside to that thought? I didn’t have great friends and I wasn’t a huge fan of s’mores. Music is what kept me company. Anyway, twenty other songs to add to your playlist this season should include:
“Stolen Dance” ~ Milky Chance
“Left Hand Free” ~ alt-J
“Cinnamon Toast ” ~ Only Real
“Things We Lost In The Fire” ~ Bastille
“Sometime Around Midnight” ~ The Airborne Toxic Event
“Kiss And Not Tell” ~ La Roux
“The Ballad of Mr. Steak” ~ Kishi Bashi
“Weekend Wars” ~ MGMT
“It All Feels Right” ~ Washed Out
“Odessa” ~ Caribou
“Jungle Dancing” ~ Leisure Connection
“Mosquito” ~ Yeah Yeah Yeahs
“I’m With You” ~ Grouplove
“Heart Beats” ~ Johnnyswim
“Young Folks” ~ Peter Bjorn and John
“Shadow Of A Man” ~ Neulore
“Shadow” ~ Bleachers
“From Afar” ~ Vance Joy
“Money Power Glory” ~ Lana Del Rey
“Lay Your Love Down” ~ Wolf Gang
You can hear some of these songs featured on my “Indie Flavour” radio show with co-host Shaun Pierre (DJ Frenchi) on Wednesday’s 3-5 pm on 90.7 WCLH fm or online at wclh.org. Stay tuned for my next blog which will discuss my recent horrible free concert experience in Philly a few weeks back and new music releases.
