Over the past few weeks in the Wilkes University intramurals world many things have happened, most of which were on the basketball court.
The UCOMM building, located on campus, was the home to this semester’s first intramural event. The 3-on-3 tournament was an exceptional way for Neal Biscaldi, intramural director, to begin the spring semester.
Wilkes’ intramural program is no stranger to the 3-on-3 basketball tournament; in fact, this is the second one they have had this year. The first took place right before Christmas break and was won by Team Amal.
Team Amal features four members including the team captain, Amal Pillai, Marcellus Hayes, Allen Heggs and Orane Churchill.
Looking to repeat for the second straight tournament, Team Amal had a target on their back. The stiffest competition came from Team Jaleel. Team captain Jaleel Sterling put together a strong team of primarily freshman with hopes of taking the title from Team Amal.
At the end of the first night of competition, the teams had met head to head once. In that match, Team Jaleel pulled out a close fought match to 11.
Losing on the first night meant Team Amal would have to defeat Team Jaleel twice on the second night of competition to reclaim their crown, and that’s exactly what they did.
Sparked by the timely shooting of Pillai, Team Amal captured its second straight 3-on-3 basketball intramural title.
